Aperture, shutter speed, and ISO

F2.8 F16+ A1. We closely relate aperture to the pupil (in our eye) A2. The smaller aperture will create a larger f-stop, the higher aperture will create a smaller f-stop A3. Aperture affects depth of field. Depth of field is the subject or what's in focus in the photograph. The aperture has a direct affect on the depth of field, the higher aperture number, the more focus the foreground will be in, the lower the aperture number, the more blurred the foreground will be. Low shutter speed High shutter speed Daylight Photo's: a) slow shutter speed because no motion is taking place b)Probably a medium- slow shutter speed because there could be little motion c)Probably a medium- high shutter speed because the stars are moving quickly but in light d)Again, a medium- high shutter speed because they may not be moving as quick as the stars, but are moving somewhat fast and are in daylight e)Around a medium shutter speed because no one is running in and n

Academic Shoot Reflection and Critique

1. What challenges did you encounter while trying to get the photos following the rules I set out for you?  I had no trouble with rules set for the shoot. 2. What technical aspects of photography or the assignment in general (focus, framing, holding the camera, etc.) did you find yourself thinking about the most? Provide a specific example of what you did to do this correctly. I was mainly focusing on focus and a little bit of framing 3. If you could do the assignment again, what would you do differently now that you know some basic rules of photography? I would try to incorporate more aspects and basic rules of photography in my photo's 4. What things would you do the same? I liked the photo's I took and what I was looking to shoot at. So basically I liked the idea I had set in my mind for my photo's. 5. When you go out with your next set of prompts, which rule do you think will be the easiest to achieve? Rule of thirds, Balance, and maybe simplicity. 6. Which rule do you

Academic Shoot

1. Balance 2. Color wheel page being colored 3. It is clear to me, other people might have a different eye and focus on the girl coloring, or the girl in the upper left corner, or the books stacked in the background. You never know 1. Avoiding merger's 2. Working students 3. Yes it is clear 1. Simplicity 2. Phone loading 3. Again, it is clear to me, but someone could easily look at the girl holding the phone, school supplies or people in the background

Photo Manipulation and Ethics

A. What are some of the main points you read about in the website above regarding manipulating images? There is still question amongst people wether manipulation of photo's is right or wrong. Some people think it is not, and some people think it is. Some companies let you manipulate and photoshop pictures, like in magazines of celebrities. Some just try to keep the photo "truthful". In our time now, lot's of people can get softwares that allow us to do these things.  B. What is the philosophy of newspapers like the Washington Post and the New York times regarding image manipulation?  In newspapers like the ones listed above, their policy regarding manipulation and photoshop state "No colors will be altered from the original scene photographed". So as long as they do not change the hues and colors in the original photograph, it seems to me they can change anything else. C. What do you think are acceptable things you could do to an image and not cross the l

Academic Preview Assignment

Action and Emotion I chose this for action and emotion because one it is an amazing action picture. I think it is so incredible how all the sparks are flying and it is a really pleasing photo to me. It all shows the emotion of focus. The girl doing what she's doing, is very focused giving the photo not a sad feeling, but not overjoyed. The Story I chose this photograph for the best story because by looking at the picture hard enough you can see that it is some sort of play taking place. You can see all the things going on and even imagine what else is happening, did happen, or is going to happen. Filling the Frame I chose this photograph for this topic because there are so many things to look at in this photo and the whole frame is filled. You can focus on the woman smiling, or the bright yellow flowers she's holding, or giving them out, or the guy she's giving them to, everyone around the girl and guy, the giant yellow object in the top right corner. 1. Why did y

Post Shoot Reflection

1. What challenges did you encounter while trying to get the photos of your first 4 prompts (Square, Metal, Happy, Bowie) I had a little bit of a challenge with getting the photo's I wanted in the time limit we were given. 2. What technical aspects of photography or the assignment in general (focus, framing, holding the camera, etc.) did you find yourself thinking about the most? Provide a specific example of what you did to do this correctly. I was thinking mostly about what photo I could take to where someone could get a relative idea of the prompt, but I was also focusing on having a focused picture, because I always seem to try and get closer to objects in the photo's I take. 3. If you could do the assignment again, what would you do differently now that you know some basic rules of photography? I think I would try to incorporate more of the aspects of photography into my photos and see if I liked the outcome better.  4. What things would you do the same? I think I had pre

9/11 Photo technices

Framing I chose this photo for framing because the subject is climbing an object, while so, the outworks of a broken building is surrounding him in the photo showing the technique. Rule Of Thirds I chose this photo for rule of thirds because the building on the left is the main focus and it is not directly in the center the photograph giving the picture more of an interesting feel, making you want to keep looking at the photo.  It hits the bottom left corner when using the grid. Simplicity I chose this photo for simplicity because it is obvious what the subject is, there is nothing else distracting you from the burning building. The background is the plain blue sky, with tiny blurred city skyline. Lines I chose this photo for leading lines because as you look at the photo, you start to focus on the lines, moving you vision upwards to see smoke holes and fire men. Merges I chose this photo for merges because the man on the right of the photographs hand is bein

Prompt Shoot #1

Metal I think I achieved simplicity on this photo because this subject is obvious and nothing in the background is distracting from the motorbike. Square I could almost say I achieved leading lines in this photo because the lines the rocks create follow throughout the picture and you eventually lay your eyes on the square I was capturing. Bowie I think this might be simplicity again, or maybe not any. Though i'm not for sure.  Happy This could possibly be framing, at least in my eyes. The focus of the rocks and the green plants in the dark background and on the side reminded me of framing.

First Day Photo's

I chose this photo for my "Place" category. I chose it because I think it was timed perfectly and it really captured my eye. Right when I took I knew I was going to use it. It made me feel happy inside and that means something to me. Overall I am proud of this photo and I think it is truly beautiful. I chose this photo for my "Thing" category. I chose this photo because I think that the close up, and the blurring effect plays a major role in it. The focus on the flower with all the other leaves surrounding is really cool looking. The little bit of shadows peaking through I also think is really cool and whenever I look at the picture I don't want to look away. I chose this photo for my "People" category. Honestly, I don't like this photo. I think that the direction it was being taken was wrong, and that the lighting was off because of it so it doesn't look flattering. I also think it could've been taken closer to get the depth e
